Do I need a Speech-Language Pathologist?
What is a Speech-Language Pathologist (S-LP)? A Speech-Language Pathologist (S-LP) is concerned with the identification, assessment, treatment and (re)habilitation and prevention of communication and/or swallowing disorders in children and adults. In Ontario, S-LPs hold a Master's Degree and are regulated health professionals under the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists (CASLPO).
Do I need a Doctors referral? No, a Doctors referral is not required. You can contact Nia Speech Therapy directly to book an appointment.
What can I expect during a visit?
What is teletherapy/ virtual care? Teletherapy, or virtual care, refers to the use of technology to deliver direct Speech–Language Pathology services to a client who is in a different location from the speech-language pathologist. Nia Speech Therapy uses the Zoom platform with settings to support your privcay and Personal Health Information.
Do you provide in-person therapy? Based on your location, in- in-home services can be discussed. We also offer limited in-office appointments. Contact to learn more.
What do I need for virtual care? - A secure internet connection - A computer/ tablet - A support person to help with log-in/ troubleshooting as required
Is speech therapy covered by OHIP? Speech-language pathology services offered by Nia Speech Therapy are not covered by OHIP. As appropriate, referrals to community programs will be supported. If you are covered by individual insurance/ extended healthcare benefits, explore if Speech-Language Pathology services are covered. Contact Nia Speech Therapy for more information on fees.
